EU Commission sets out European coordinated response to counter the economic impact of the Coronavirus

The European Commission is urging countries to work together to ensure deliveries of food and medical supplies are maintained and to set up a coordinated system of health checks in response to Coronavirus. The six-page guidelines (Guidelines for border management measures to protect health and ensure the availability of goods and essential services) were presented to EU ministers during a conference call Monday morning (16 March 2020) and include a commitment to ensure the free circulation of food, including livestock, along with medical supplies and protective equipment despite restrictions on transit brought in by many countries. The guidelines also include provisions for countries to carry out entry and exit health checks on those that continue to cross borders.
